Random Matrix Approach to Glassy Physics: Low Temperatures and Beyond

چکیده

A random matrix approach to glassy physics is introduced. It leads to a class of models that exhibit both glassy low-temperature phases and doubleand single-well configurations in their potential energy. The distribution of parameters characterizing the local potential energy configurations can be computed, and differ from those assumed in the standard tunneling model and its variants. Still, low-temperature anomalies characteristic of amorphous systems are reproduced, and we are able to distinguish properties which can be expected to be universal from those which cannot. The glassy phase of Gallager codes

Gallager codes are the best error-correcting codes to-date. In this paper we study them by using the tools of statistical mechanics. The corresponding statistical mechanics model is a spin model on a sparse random graph. The model can be solved by elementary methods (i.e. without replicas) in a large connectivity limit. For low enough temperatures it presents a completely frozen glassy phase (q...

Random pinning in glassy spin models with plaquette interactions.

We use a random pinning procedure to study amorphous order in two glassy spin models. On increasing the concentration of pinned spins at constant temperature, we find a sharp crossover (but no thermodynamic phase transition) from bulk relaxation to localization in a single state. At low temperatures, both models exhibit scaling behavior. We discuss the growing length and time scales associated ...

Glassy Behavior of Random Field Magnets

The key unresolved feature of the random eld Ising model is the complex, history dependent behavior found both in experiments and numerical simulations. It appears that for strong enough disorder, and low temperatures, the system falls out of equilibrium, displaying anomalously slow relaxation and other features characteristic of glassy materials. Recently, it has been proposed that this behavi...

Freezing and folding behavior in simple off-lattice heteropolymers.

We have performed parallel tempering Monte Carlo simulations using a simple continuum heteropolymer model for proteins. All 10 heteropolymer sequences which we have studied have shown first-order transitions at low temperature to ordered states dominated by single chain conformations. These results are in contrast with the theoretical predictions of the random energy model for heteropolymers, f...

Random multi - index matching problems

The multi-index matching problem generalizes the well known matching problem by going from pairs to d-uplets. We use the cavity method from statistical physics to analyse its properties when the costs of the d-uplets are random. At low temperatures we find for d ≥ 3 a frozen glassy phase with vanishing entropy. We also investigate some properties of small samples by enumerating the lowest cost ...
